Salk Skatepark

Salk Skatepark is on the banks of the Currumbin River. Not only is it a good spot for a ride but you can have a swim afterwards. The skate park has had a recent upgrade and a new section added. There is a real contrast between old and new sections but both can be fun. The park is part of Salk Oval and hence the name.

Salk Skatepark Elements

The old section has been around for quite some time. It is a rounded bowl of only 3 feet in height that transitions down to the ground both sides. In the middle sits a cut off volcano of the same height. The bowl has concrete acting as coping. Another old piece is a pool style quarter pipe complete with tiles across the top. It joins onto the new section.

The new section is smooth, fast and has lots of curves creating hips. In the middle sits a small rounded volcano. Around it are quarters and banks with different transitions and heights. Across the top of one side sits concrete parking blocks. There’s a raised micro bowl which rolls in to the section.

What’s Around Salk Oval

There is plenty on offer here aside from the skatepark. With the river a stones throw away you can swim or hire a stand up paddle board. There’s parking all around as well as BBQ’s, seats, shelters and water. It isn’t the biggest park, and elements are limited, so avoid during peak times. There are shops across the river and bus stops nearby. There’s also a major shopping centre with all majors on the other side of the highway.

Notes

  • There’s plenty of gum trees around so bring a broom.
