Lowood Skatepark

Lowood Skatepark has a bit of variety and is popular with locals. Last time I was out here they were throwing down backflips over the spine. The park was upgraded in 2013 by the Somerset Council at a cost of $120,000. You can check out the upgrades and a few sick lines in the video section.

Lowood Skatepark Elements

Lowood has a mix of both street and transition. There’s a 4 1/2ft three sided bowl with metal coping and good sized platforms. It hips out to a medium quarter on one side and a small quarter on the other. There’s a bank heading down to the flat with a flat down rail. In the middle there’s a 3ft spine ramp that opens up. There’s also a fun box with a manual pad, launch pad and rail. A flat rail is off to the side. On the other side of the park sits a 3ft bank with hip.

The park hasn’t changed much since its last upgrade 7 years ago. Whilst it’s a fairly small park, there’s also less people than in the major cities, so you’ll get a ride in easy.

If you want to get a feel for the elements of the park check out the riding in the vids. It gives you an idea of the sizing of everything and what sort of lines and tricks you can nail.

What’s nearby?

The park sits next to the railway tracks running through the centre of town. In the park there’s seats and shelter, drinking water and a playground. It’s close to the centre of town and all the shops. Lowood is north west of Ipswich and to the west of Fernvale. If you’re looking for a park nearby you can check out the Fernvale Skatepark. It’s bigger in size with a few extra elements like a mini halfpipe and stairs. You’ll find it around 12km to the east via Forest Hill Fernvale Road.

  1. Lowood needs another one, not near a kids place.
