Ipswich Central Skatepark

For a skate park near the heart of a city, this is pretty ordinary. Ipswich Central Skatepark is fairly small, but does try and mix up the elements between transition and street.

Ipswich Central Skatepark Elements

A wide flat bank with a small deck runs down one side. Another side has a ledge with angled kickers on the sides. In the centre of the park stands a low pyramid. It’s about 1 foot in height but is very long and wide with metal coping. There’s also a small rollover. A three sided bank covers one side. It has a few hips and stands around 5 foot. There is a grass hill on the other side of the deck.

Leading up to the bowl there’s a 4 foot curved quarter pipe. This has metal coping and spines into the bowl proper. The skate bowl at Ipswich is close to a kidney bowl in shape and is about 4 to 5 foot. Metal coping rounds the bowl and there’s a hip on one side. There is a large tree hanging over this section and as it’s enclosed a lot of stuff gathers in the bottom. Bring a broom or a blower if you can.

What’s Around

There’s a lot of large parks and gardens nearby with all the facilities you could ask for. The immediate surrounds however don’t offer much. There’s seats and a shelter down the hill, playing fields and a basketball hoop. It does have lights, but whether they get turned on and cover the entire skate park I’m not sure. Buses and shops can be found further in towards the city.
