Gatton Skatepark

This has to be one of the cleanest looking skate parks I’ve ever seen. A fresh coat of paint the day before will give that impression though. Even the rails were painted! Gatton Skatepark has a pretty good setup for something of this size. A good mix between street and transition elements make for a fun day.

It’s easy to find, as it’s just of the side of one of the major arterials running through Gatton.

Gatton Skatepark Elements

The part starts off with a wide flat 4 foot bank. On one side there’s a small hip and another bank.

In the centre of the park from side to side you have a lot of options. On one side there’s a flat rail. One big combo box starts up and runs the rest of the width. There’s a manual pad joined to a kicker pad. A ledge sits alongside. There’s a launch pad in the middle with a flat down rail. The launch pad kickers then transition up into a 3 foot spine ramp.

The other side of the park has plenty going on. A wide deck leads into a hubba, rail and 5 stair. This sits next to a 3 foot bank that transitions up to a 5 foot flat bank. A small quarter then hips into a 5 foot half pipe with metal coping. The other side of the half pipe also has a wide deck with a quarter pipe off on the angle. This makes for another hip and chance for transfers.

Check out the videos if you want to get an idea of the scope of the park. You’ll see scooter riders throwing down bangers on various obstacles.

What’s Around

The entrance to the skate park is just past the Information Centre and Transport Museum if you’re heading out of town. It has its own car park and there’s plenty of space available. There’s a few seats and a shelter and water is available.

If you’re looking for somewhere to ride nearby, there is a small one off to the east in Forest Hill Skatepark. It’s a real small town and the park is good for beginners.

Gatton Skatepark Events

As one of the major skateparks in the region, there’s events and scooter workshops held here outside of Covid lockdowns. Keep an eye out on the Scooter Events page for information on upcoming events. You can also keep up to date via the Lockyer Valley Regional Council youth programs pages.

How good is Gatton Skatepark?

If you’re looking to visiting a few skateparks in the area, this one should be on the list. It’s not only bigger than most and has more obstacles, but it is also maintained, with a fresh coat of paint going down a few years back. It also gives you a mix between transitions, places to launch, spines and street obstacles.

There’s not much in the way of fresh reviews and comments online about this park. Most are negative, outdated and from skaters. Although there are plenty of skate comps held here so it must go alright.
