Fernvale Skatepark

Fernvale Skatepark is in the Somerset region to the north west of Ipswich. You’ll find it in a small town about 16 clicks north of Blacksoil. The park is just off the Brisbane Valley Highway. It’s a concrete park with a combination of small transitions and street elements.

Fernvale Skatepark Elements

Fernvale is a concrete park with a few different sections and transitions to ride. There’s a 4ft mini with metal coping with a hip leading to a flat bank. It has some width to it so you can mix up your lines. There’s also a 4ft three sided rounded bowl with metal coping. Some of these transitions are mellow. The halfpipe and bowl are joined by a spine which opens up as it lowers. On the platform there’s a rail leading into a micro ramp. In the middle of the park there’s a fun box with a flat down rail. There’s also a combo quarter and flat bank.

As you can see by the photos, the park has been around a while and isn’t as smooth as some of the glossy modern day rides. Being out in a regional town though you’ll find a lot less other riders around and less snaking.

Check out the videos posted by riders shredding the place to bits. They’ll give you a feel for the place and what sort of tricks you can throw down on your next visit.

Scooter Comps at Fernvale Stumer Skatepark

The Somerset Regional Council holds Scooter Comps at the park, often as part of youth week. These competitions at Fernvale Skatepark see some quality riders and some awesome tricks being landed. Keep an eye on the events section and social media for upcoming events.

If you take a look through some of the vids you’ll see footage from recent comps. There’s some wicked lines and tricks on display.

What’s Nearby?

The Skate Park is part of a bigger park and there’s plenty of parking. There’s also a picnic table, seats, playground and toilets. If you’re visiting the area don’t forget to stop by the Fernvale Bakery. Best pies and pastries around and at good prices.

If you’re looking for another place to ride in the region you may also want to try the Lowood Skatepark. It’s around 12km to the west via Forest Hill Fernvale Road.
